Tuning the Thermal Stability and Photoisomerization of Azoheteroarenes through Macrocycle Strain**

Sergi Vela et al.

Summary: Azobenzene and its derivatives are widely used in various modern applications and fundamental research, with efforts to manipulate the photoexcitation timescale prompting the development of new derivatives with improved switching characteristics. The impact of alkyl bridges on the thermal stability of phenyl-azoheteroarenes was investigated, revealing the possibility of combining enhanced photoswitching properties while maintaining regular thermal stability and increased t1/2 values under specific conditions.

Extendedtight-bindingquantum chemistry methods

Christoph Bannwarth et al.

Summary: This review discusses a family of atomistic, mostly quantum chemistry based semiempirical methods for describing large molecules in gas and condensed phase. These methods are derived from a density functional perturbation expansion and emphasize parameter availability for almost the entire periodic table, with improvements in atomic orbital basis set and interaction treatments. The methods are consistent with accurate gas phase theoretical reference data and have been extended for electronic spectra and response properties.

Identifying the Trade-off between Intramolecular Singlet Fission Requirements in Donor-Acceptor Copolymers

J. Terence Blaskovits et al.

Summary: This study identifies the trade-off between the main requirements of the donor-acceptor strategy for iSF and formulates design rules for tuning them simultaneously in a fragment-based approach. Simple guidelines to build promising novel materials for iSF are established based on a library of 2944 donor-acceptor copolymers. Systems containing benzothiadiazole and thiophene-1,1-dioxide acceptors have been shown to fulfill all criteria for iSF simultaneously when paired with appropriate donors, making them highly promising candidates in the quest for iSF materials.

Unconventional singlet fission materials

Tobias Ullrich et al.

Summary: Singlet fission is a photophysical downconversion pathway that transforms a singlet excitation into two triplet excited states, offering potential applications in solar energy conversion devices and other areas. While the mechanistic understanding of SF has evolved rapidly, the limited number of suitable SF-chromophores poses a challenge, necessitating the search for new SF materials.
