Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation of Tau Protein Is Encoded at the Monomeric Level

Xuewei Dong et al.

Summary: Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) plays a role in physiological and pathological processes. Tau and its K18 construct undergo LLPS in a temperature-dependent manner, but the underlying mechanism remains largely elusive.

Interplay of folded domains and the disordered low-complexity domain in mediating hnRNPA1 phase separation

Erik W. Martin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the interaction between folded and disordered domains can modulate the phase separation behavior of the RNA-binding protein hnRNPA1, even in the absence of RNA. The presence of folded domains can alter the salt dependence of phase separation, and the mechanism of interaction with the LCD provides an explanation for the observed salt-dependent phase separation.

A Data-Driven Hydrophobicity Scale for Predicting Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation of Proteins

Thomas Dannenhoffer-Lafage et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) plays a key role in the formation of membraneless organelles, while the development of a new, data-driven hydrophobicity scale can better predict protein phase separation behavior under physiological conditions.

Improved coarse-grained model for studying sequence dependent phase separation of disordered proteins

Roshan Mammen Regy et al.

Summary: The study presents improvements to the hydropathy scale model for simulating sequence-specific behavior of intrinsically disordered proteins, including liquid-liquid phase separation. By using the Urry hydropathy scale and introducing new model parameters, accurate simulations of protein LLPS can be achieved.
