Tuning the Magnetic Coupling of a Molecular Spin Interface via Electron Doping

Giulia Avvisati et al.

Summary: By tuning the occupancy of molecular orbitals carrying the spin magnetic moment through electron doping, the magnetic response of molecular spin interfaces can be controlled. Alkali doping induces a transition in the spin state of Mn centers, resulting in higher saturation magnetization values and allowing the molecular spin configuration to be adjusted almost independently from the hard-magnet substrate.

Interfacial antiferromagnetic coupling and high spin polarization in metallic phthalocyanines

Junwei Tong et al.

Summary: The study reveals that metallic phthalocyanines are antiferromagnetically coupled with oxidized cobalt substrate through the interfacial oxygen atomic layer, with coupling strength depending on the metallic ion type. The physical mechanism for different exchange strengths is explored, and the impact of metallic phthalocyanines on the adsorption energy and work function of oxidized cobalt is noted. High negative spin-polarized spinterfaces are obtained in these metallic phthalocyanines, with spin polarizations reaching up to -86% and -80% for CrPc and MnPc, respectively. The large interfacial coupling energy enables high spin polarization to be maintained beyond room temperature, showing promising potential for the application of metallic phthalocyanines in spintronic devices.
