Synthesis and characterization of Gd2O3: Er3+, Yb3+ doped with Mg2+, Li+ ions-effect on the photoluminescence and biological applications

Izabela Kaminska et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles with efficient upconverting luminescence were synthesized, with a notable increase in red luminescence intensity for 2.5% Mg2+ doping. X-ray analysis showed that the largest crystallite size at 2.5% Mg concentration contributed to the enhancement of luminescence intensity, while the addition of Li+ ions decreased the crystallite size.

Internal OH- induced cascade quenching of upconversion luminescence in NaYF4:Yb/Er nanocrystals

Yansong Feng et al.

Summary: Internal hydroxyl impurities have been identified as detrimental factors affecting the upconversion efficiency of upconversion luminescence nanomaterials. By quantifying and adjusting the internal hydroxyl impurity in NaYF4 nanocrystals, researchers have unraveled the microscopic interactions underlying UCL quenching and proposed a concept of Survivor effect to explain the UC dynamical process involving internal hydroxyl. The new quantitative insights obtained from this study are expected to promote the development of highly efficient UC materials.

Mitochondria and lysosome-targetable fluorescent probes for hydrogen peroxide

Yongchun Wei et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide, a key member of reactive oxygen species, regulates physiological processes like cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. Abnormal production of H2O2 can lead to diseases. Various fluorescent probes for H2O2 detection at the subcellular level, including those targeting mitochondria and lysosomes, have been developed and utilized.

A lysosomal targeted NIR photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy and two-photon fluorescence imaging

Yuping Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel lysosome-targeting two-photon fluorescent photosensitizer (TTRh-CN) is prepared and comprehensively investigated. TTRh-CN demonstrates near-infrared (NIR) emission, good biocompatibility, and superior photostability, and it can act as a two-photon fluorescent agent for the clear visualization of living cells and the vascular system within tissue, with deep-tissue penetration abilities.
