Recent Progress and Applications of Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation and Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones and Imines through Dynamic Kinetic Resolution

Ricardo Molina Betancourt et al.

Summary: This short review focuses on the development of efficient, atom-economical, and sustainable methods for the production of chiral alcohols and amines, particularly through homogeneous asymmetric catalysis. It discusses asymmetric hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation, as well as dynamic kinetic resolution as key approaches to constructing up to three stereogenic centers.

Kinetic Resolution of [2.2]Paracyclophane-Derived Cyclic N-Sulfonylimines via Palladium-Catalyzed Addition of Arylboronic Acids

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: A facile method was developed for kinetic resolution of [2.2]paracyclophane-derived cyclic N-sulfonylimines based on palladium-catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids, producing two kinds of planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophane derivatives with excellent diastereoselectivities and up to 99% of enantioselectivities, along with high selectivity factors up to 128.

Nickel-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Cyclic Alkenyl Sulfones, Benzo[b]thiophene 1,1-Dioxides, with Mechanistic Studies

Gongyi Liu et al.

Summary: A highly efficient catalytic system based on inexpensive transition metal nickel was developed for the asymmetric hydrogenation of challenging cyclic alkenyl sulfones. The study provided a reasonable catalytic mechanism for the nickel-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation, showing that the hydrogenation products could originate from H-2 through the insertion of Ni-H and subsequent hydrogenolysis.

Kinetic resolution of racemic allylic alcohols via iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation: scope, synthetic applications and insight into the origin of selectivity

Haibo Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the first iridium-catalyzed kinetic resolution of a wide range of trisubstituted secondary and tertiary allylic alcohols was described, showing large selectivity factors and high levels of enantiopurity. The utility of this method was demonstrated in the enantioselective formal synthesis of some bioactive natural products, highlighting its potential application value in organic compound synthesis.
