Rapid recurrence in head and neck cancer: Underappreciated problem with poor outcome

Summary: Rapid recurrence in head and neck cancer patients is underestimated, with 20% experiencing it prior to initiating postoperative radiation therapy. Extranodal extension was the only predictor of rapid recurrence, and rapid recurrence was the strongest predictor of poor overall survival outcomes.
