Investigation of photon, neutron and proton shielding features of H3BO3-ZnO-Na2O-BaO glass system

M. H. A. Mhareb et al.

Summary: The current study investigated the shielding properties of multi-component borate-based glass series. Seven glass samples were synthesized with varying BaO concentrations, showing that the addition of BaO enhanced the mass attenuation coefficient and specific gamma-ray constants while reducing other shielding parameters. These results suggest the potential use of these glasses in various radiation shielding applications.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of adding BaO to glass samples on their stability and photon shielding capacity. Results showed that while the stability of the glass decreased slightly with BaO addition, its photon shielding competence improved. Experimental calculations demonstrated that glass sample G5 outperformed other standard shielding materials in terms of photon shielding capability.

Summary: The study examines the shielding performance of boron-containing natural materials in Liaoning Province, China, against neutron and gamma radiation, finding that boron content and material density have a positive correlation with shielding ability. Composites prepared with boron resources and epoxy resin show excellent neutron shielding but poor performance against gamma rays.

Summary: In this study, a series of glass samples with different compositions were synthesized and various parameters were calculated to define their physical features. The results showed that the addition of MoO3 instead of B2O3 in the glass samples can improve their structural and shielding features, indicating that they can be used as effective radiation shielding absorbers.

Effect of doping of Ce4+/3+ on optical, strength and shielding properties of (0.5-x)TeO2-0.25MoO-0.25Bi2O3-xCeO2 glasses

A. L. Kozlovskiy et al.

Summary: The study explores the impact of dopant CeO2 concentrations on the efficiency of gamma radiation shielding using telluride glasses. Results show that increasing CeO2 concentration enhances glass density and decreases porosity, leading to improved shielding efficiency. The findings also indicate that doping with CeO2 can increase crack resistance, decrease glass degradation, and enhance resistance to degradation by 1.5-3 times depending on the dopant concentration.

Summary: This study investigated the properties of Bi2O3 glasses containing tungsten and lead obtained by sintering, finding that an increase in PbO concentration leads to higher density, lower metallization, a smaller band gap, and higher refractive index. Experimental results showed that glasses with 0.125WO3-0.375PbO have the best shielding efficiency for gamma rays.

Study of the effect of doping CeO2 in TeO2-MoO-Bi2O3 ceramics on the phase composition, optical properties and shielding efficiency of gamma radiation

A. Temir et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in structural, optical, and gamma radiation shielding properties of CeO2-doped TeO2-MoO-Bi2O3 ceramics. The phase transitions were determined using X-ray phase analysis, showing equilibrium of phases at 0.20 dopant concentration and dominance of CeTe2O6 phase at 0.25 concentration. Doping resulted in sharp changes in absorption edge, decrease in Eg value, and increase in gamma radiation shielding efficiency exceeding 50% at dopant concentrations above 0.15 M.

Characterization of gamma-ray and neutron radiation absorption properties of synthesized quinoline derivatives and their genotoxic potential

Burak Alaylar et al.

Summary: This study synthesized six different types of quinoline derivatives for potential use as an anti-radiation drug, and assessed their effectiveness against radiation through Monte Carlo simulation and experimental measurements. Results showed that the quinoline derivative shielding material performed better than traditional materials in absorbing radiation, and the derivatives were found to be genotoxically safe at tested concentrations. It is suggested that these new radiation shielding derivatives could be used as active ingredients in drugs developed to combat both neutron and gamma radiation.
