Tuning the structure, morphological variations, optical and magnetic properties of SnO2/NiFe2O4 nanocomposites for promising applications

Fawzy G. El Desouky et al.

Summary: (SnO2)(1-x) (NiFe2O4)(x) nanocomposites were synthesized using a three-step hydrothermal technique. The study of the crystal structure and morphological variations was carried out through XRD, HRTEM, and FESEM analysis. The increase of NiFe2O4 content enhanced the absorption capability in the visible domain, resulting in a red-shift. The nanocomposites exhibited improved magnetic response and supported the idea of photoinduced charge migration and magnetic segregation.

Photocatalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by novel mesoporous Ag/ZnO@NiFe2O4 nanorods, inducing radical-mediated acetaminophen degradation under UVA irradiation

Mona Kohantorabi et al.

Summary: A new mesoporous Ag/ZnO@NiFe2O4 nanorod was prepared using a facile, low-cost, and environmentally friendly strategy as an effective catalyst and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) photo-activator for ACT degradation. The catalyst showed high catalytic activity and efficient degradation of ACT due to the formation of a hetero-junction structure with NiFe2O4 and ZnO, as well as the presence of Fe3+/Fe2+ and Ni2+/Ni3+ reaction cycles enhancing the PMS activation rate. The study also proposed a plausible mechanism for the photocatalytic degradation of ACT based on LC-MS analysis of the reaction intermediates.

The impact of cobalt insertion on the structural and magnetic properties of nonstoichiometric ZnCoxFe1.7O4 (x >0.3) nanoferrites

Adel Maher Wahba et al.

Summary: In this study, a single-phase nanoferrite ZnCoxFe1.7O4 system was prepared via the citrate autocombustion method, with nonstoichiometry progressively enhanced by increasing cobalt content. The lattice parameter showed a decreasing trend with increasing x, and the as-prepared samples exhibited nearly superparamagnetic behavior while the sintered sample showed antiferromagnetic behavior. The continuous insertion of Co2+ in the formula unit was compensated by the reduction of Fe3+ cations to Fe2+ ones and the progressive occupation of Zn2+ in the 16c positions according to the suggested cation distribution.
