Electro-thermal simulations of beyond-CMOS vanadium dioxide devices and oscillators

Stefania Carapezzi et al.

Summary: In this study, we utilized TCAD modeling to simulate the resistive switching effects in VO2 devices induced by heat. We investigated how heat dissipation affects the behavior of VO2 devices and found entangled self-oscillatory behavior of temperature and voltage across the device. These findings provide essential guidelines for the design of VO2 oscillators used in oscillatory neural networks circuits for neuromorphic computing.

Ultra-wideband tunable metamaterial perfect absorber based on vanadium dioxide

Guozhang Wu et al.

Summary: The proposed ultra-wideband metamaterial perfect absorber based on vanadium dioxide shows a high terahertz absorption bandwidth and controllable absorption peak intensity. By optimizing the geometric structure and using interference cancellation and impedance matching theory, the absorber achieves better absorption performance and efficiency. It has wide-angle absorption effects in both TE and TM waves, making it suitable for various applications in modulation, sensing, and imaging technology.

Summary: A new smart window film composed of VO2 nanoparticle matrix and patterned VO2 film is proposed in this paper, which can achieve high solar modulation and high transparency simultaneously. Compared with VO2 nanoparticle matrix, the proposed structure can obtain 23% solar modulation and 57% luminous transmittance with a thinner thickness, reducing cost and improving stability.

Recent Progress on Vanadium Dioxide Nanostructures and Devices: Fabrication, Properties, Applications and Perspectives

Yanqing Zhang et al.

Summary: Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a typical material undergoing metal-insulator transition, exhibiting sudden changes in conductance and optical transmittance during phase transition. Due to its excellent phase transition characteristics, VO2 has been widely studied and applied in the fields of electric and optical devices. This review summarizes the phases, structural features, fabrication methods, properties, and applications of VO2, while also discussing the challenges and opportunities for future studies and applications.

Design and fabrication of frequency-responsive terahertz transmittance modulator based on vanadium dioxide spherical films

Jiran Liang et al.

Summary: A spherical film array structure based on VO2 was designed and fabricated to enhance the frequency response of transmittance in the THz band. Compared to planar films, spherical films showed a significant increase in THz transmittance modulation depth as frequency increased in the 1.5-3 THz range, attributed to absorption by electric dipole resonance. Numerical simulations indicated that resonance absorption would increase with the width of spherical gaps, with a potential 120% increase in absorptivity from 1.5 to 3 THz when the gap width was 0.05 μm.
