Optimization and sensitivity analysis of rheological properties of high concentration γ-alumina/water suspension

Summary: This study prepared a high concentration gamma-alumina/water suspension containing 75% (wt) gamma-alumina nanoparticle using a 3D-mixer. Various analyses were used to investigate the stability, purity, crystallinity, and chemical structure of the nanoparticles in the base fluid, while studying the rheological behavior of the suspension in relation to pH, sonication durations, dispersing agent concentrations, and ratios of ceramic balls to nanoparticles weight. The research showed that a power-law model with yield stress could justify the non-Newtonian behavior of the suspension, and a correlation including pH, sonication time, dispersing agent concentration, and the ratio of ceramic balls to nanoparticles weight as independent parameters was developed to predict the power of the model.

Producing Magnetic Nanocomposites from Paper Sludge for the Adsorptive Removal of Pharmaceuticals from Water-A Fractional Factorial Design

Summary: This study explored the potential of producing magnetic activated carbon (MAC) through intercalation of ferromagnetic metal oxide nanoparticles in powder activated carbon (PAC) to adsorb pharmaceuticals from aqueous media. A fractional factorial design (FFD) was used to assess the effect of significant variables on MACs. The main factor affecting the responses was determined to be the PAC to iron salts mass ratio, leading to the differentiation of four MAC types through a quadratic linear regression model.
