Age, provenance and tectonic setting of metasedimentary rocks of the Simlipal Complex, Singhbhum Craton, eastern India

Ajay K. Singh et al.

Summary: The Simlipal Complex in eastern India is a circular/elliptical structure at the eastern margin of the Singhbhum Craton, possibly representing the remnant of an Archean impact structure. The metasedimentary rocks in the complex, including sandstones/quartzites and shales/slates/phyllites, show a moderate to extensive weathering trend, with the shales/slates/phyllites likely sourced from a granodioritic source. Additionally, the sediments have detrital zircon ages suggesting deposition between approximately 2.8 Ga and 2.5 Ga.

Causes and consequences of Oligocene-Miocene relative sea level change in Asia: An example from the Labuan Island (Sabah), Malaysia

Rajat Mazumder et al.

Summary: Labuan Island represents the emergent part of a north-eastward plunging anticline, with a stratigraphic succession consisting of four formations. The Belait Formation on the island shows a shift in depositional environment during the Oligocene-Miocene transition, influenced by regional tectonics and sea level changes, rather than paleoclimatic shifts. The unconformity and paleocurrent pattern changes across the Oligocene-Miocene boundary suggest rapid uplift and forced regressions in the geological history of the island.
