Antibacterial and antioxidative activity of the essential oil and seed extracts of Artocarpus heterophyllus for effective shelf-life enhancement of stored meat

Aizi Nor Mazila Ramli et al.

Summary: Jackfruit seed extract exhibits antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, making it a valuable natural preservative for extending the shelf-life of meat without compromising its quality and taste. The extract also showed potential for reducing the formation of MetMb in stored meat samples, indicating its commercial potential for meat shelf-life management.

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN MEDICINAL PLANT Centella asiatica AND STUDY THE EFFECTS ON FUNGAL ACTIVITIES

Prakash Bhuyar et al.

Summary: The research showed that Centella asiatica has strong anti-fungal activity, particularly against Candida albicans. Comparing the disc diffusion method and broth dilution method, it was found that broth dilution was more suitable for quantitatively determining the anti-Candida activity of plant extract.

Antioxidative study of polysaccharides extracted from red (Kappaphycus alvarezii), green (Kappaphycus striatus) and brown (Padina gymnospora) marine macroalgae/seaweed

Prakash Bhuyar et al.

Summary: The study compared the antioxidants and polysaccharide composition of sugars in three marine macroalgae collected from the east coast of Malaysia. It was found that polysaccharides from these algae can be used as natural antioxidant compounds, with Padina gymnospora showing the highest antioxidant potential. The hot water extraction method was effective in isolating the polysaccharides, and the presence of various chemical compounds in the seaweeds contributed to their antioxidant activities. Further research can be conducted to identify seaweed species with the best natural antioxidant compounds.
