Solid-Phase Adsorption of Curcumin from Turmeric Extracts by Lamellar Solids and Magnesium Oxide and Hydroxide

Summary: Solid-phase extraction and solid-phase adsorption are convenient experimental techniques employed for concentration and purification of secondary metabolites. In this study, 16 solid sorbents were screened for their ability to selectively concentrate curcumin from turmeric extract, with magnesium oxide showing the highest adsorption percentage of 96.6%. Other sorbents also demonstrated varying degrees of effectiveness in concentrating curcumin.
