Performance amelioration of single basin solar still integrated with V-type concentrator: Energy, exergy, and economic analysis

Amrit Kumar Thakur et al.

Summary: The integration of V-shape concentrator into the solar still significantly increased the freshwater yield and improved the energy and exergy efficiency of the system. Additionally, the freshwater cost of SSVC was slightly higher than that of CSS in an economical way.

A novel reduced graphene oxide based absorber for augmenting the water yield and thermal performance of solar desalination unit

Amrit Kumar Thakur et al.

Summary: The study found that using 12 wt% RGO doped with black paint-coated absorber significantly increased the water yield and absorber temperature of a single basin solar still. Compared to only using black paint-coated absorber, the SS with RGO coating had higher water yield. The application of RGO improved the performance of the SS.

COVID-19 infection risk from exposure to aerosols of wastewater treatment plants

Sahar Gholipour et al.

Summary: The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater and the potential health risks from exposure to virus-contaminated aerosols were analyzed. The study found a relatively high risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection for wastewater workers via exposure to viral aerosols, with an estimated annual infection risk higher than the WHO recommended level. Further research is needed to determine the role of wastewater in COVID-19 transmission.

An experimental investigation of a water desalination unit using different microparticle-coated absorber plate: yield, thermal, economic, and environmental assessments

Amrit Kumar Thakur et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that coating solar still absorbers with various microparticles can significantly enhance water productivity, thermal performance, and cost efficiency, with copper coating proving most effective and leading to reduced CO2 emissions. Therefore, developing energy-efficient low-cost solar-based desalination systems by improving heat transfer rates is feasible.

SARS-CoV-2 existence in sewage and wastewater: A global public health concern?

Kuldeep Dhama et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the potential of virus transmission through fecal-oral route and the presence of virus in sewage and wastewater poses a potential threat. Asymptomatic patients could also play a role in disease transmission. Therefore, wastewater-based surveillance could offer valuable insights into virus prevalence and serve as an early warning system.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has had significant impacts on public health, environment, and socio-economic factors globally. Research shows a decrease in air pollutants with the pandemic, but high pollution cities experienced higher mortality rates in COVID-19 affected areas. Additionally, the use of health safety equipment and work-from-home policies have affected solid and hazardous waste management services.

Quantitative microbial risk assessment of SARS-CoV-2 for workers in wastewater treatment plants

Rafael Newton Zaneti et al.

Summary: The study explores the potential health risks of SARS-CoV-2 in sewage treatment plant workers using a quantitative microbial risk assessment. Results show that estimates of viral RNA in sewage ranged from 4.14 x 10(1) to 5.23 x 10(3) GC.ml(-1), with risks for aggressive and extreme scenarios likely exceeding the tolerable infection risk for SARS-CoV-2.
