Investigation of circular geodesics in a rotating charged black hole in the presence of perfect fluid dark matter

Anish Das et al.

Summary: In this study, a charged black hole solution in the presence of perfect fluid dark matter (PFDM) was obtained and its energy conditions were discussed. The corresponding rotating metric was obtained using the Newman-Janis algorithm, and circular geodesics were calculated to study the effects of black hole parameters on particle energy. The study also delved into the Penrose process and the potential existence of negative energy particles within the ergosphere.

Hairy black holes by gravitational decoupling

J. Ovalle et al.

Summary: In this study, black holes with hair represented by generic fields surrounding the central source of the Schwarzschild metric were examined. It was found that under certain conditions, the energy conditions can be preserved and a new mechanism to evade the no-hair theorem was provided. A non-trivial extension of the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole with a simple horizon structure was discovered as a direct application of this research.

Black hole shadows in M-theory scenarios

A. Belhaj et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the shadows of four-dimensional black holes in M-theory inspired models, specifically examining the influence of M2-branes on nonrotating solutions and how the circular shadow size is controlled by the M2-brane number. The geometrical behavior is distorted for rotating solutions, showing cardioid shapes, with further analysis on shadow deformations as affected by a rotation parameter and energy emission rate at high energies. Investigations also provide constraints on the M2-brane number in relation to observations from the M87* parameters.

Summary: By measuring the mass and spin of black holes released by LIGO and Virgo, researchers have found strong evidence against the existence of scalar bosons in the mass range between 1.3 x 10(-13) and 2.7 x 10(-13) eV. This study suggests that the exclusion region for bosons could narrow down if rapidly spinning black holes merge shortly after formation.

Chaotic solutions and black hole shadow in f (R) gravity

Andre Addazi et al.

Summary: In this study, the emergence of black hole shadow and photon-sphere in the context of f(R) gravity is discussed, with a focus on the sensitivity of the shadow to linear instabilities of metric from f(R) solutions. It is found that the photon circular trajectories defining the black hole photon-sphere exhibit double exponential instabilities, leading to two Lyapunov exponents related to chaos in geodesic orbits. This result challenges the black hole chaos bound proposed by Maldacena, Shenker and Stanford for General Relativity, and suggests a new paradigm for handling black hole shadow and gravitational waves observations in the ringdown phase of black hole merging in Extended Theories of Gravity.

Imprints of dark matter on black hole shadows using spherical accretions

K. Saurabh et al.

Summary: Researchers studied the identification of dark matter in the galactic center by analyzing the physical properties of electromagnetic radiation emitted from an optically-thin disk region surrounding a static and spherically symmetric black hole. Dark matter can either increase or decrease the intensity of electromagnetic flux radiation depending on the model, with a high energy density of dark matter near the black hole needed for a significant effect. The distribution of surrounding dark matter plays a key role in the shadow radius and intensity of electromagnetic flux radiation.

Can supermassive black hole shadows test the Kerr metric?

Kostas Glampedakis et al.

Summary: The unprecedented image of the M87* supermassive black hole has sparked controversy over its usefulness as a test of the general relativistic Kerr metric. The paper argues that our ability to probe gravity with a black hole shadow is only partially impaired by the matter degrees of freedom and the number of non-Kerr parameters used in the model. Existing limits from gravitational wave observations imply that supermassive systems like the M87* black hole would suffer a suppression of all non-GR deviation parameters in their metric.

New test on the Einstein equivalence principle through the photon ring of black holes

Chunlong Li et al.

Summary: The Einstein Equivalence Principle (EEP) is a fundamental test of gravity theories, and this paper proposes a new method to test EEP through observations of black hole photon rings. By studying the dispersion relation of photons in circular orbit, it is found that photons with different polarizations perceive different gravitational potentials, affecting the size of the black hole photon ring. Analytic results show that the change in size of the photon ring is proportional to the violation parameters under the assumption of small EEP violation.

Magnetized discs and photon rings around Yukawa-like black holes

Alejandro Cruz-Osorio et al.

Summary: This study presents stationary solutions of geometrically thick discs with a toroidal magnetic field distribution around a nonrotating black hole in the background of f(R)-gravity, showing different characteristics based on the strength of the magnetic field and the model's parameter delta. The comparison with general relativity reveals significant changes in the black hole space-time solution for high values of delta, impacting the morphology and thermodynamical properties of the discs. By analyzing the size of the photon ring produced by a distant source, constraints on the f(R)-gravity model parameters can be placed based on observations of the light ring in M87 and SgrA* by the Event Horizon Telescope.

By using the shadow size of M87*, constraints on the physical charges of various types of nonrotating or rotating black holes can be inferred, helping rule out certain types of highly charged black holes. Additionally, considering black holes with two physical and independent charges allows for the exclusion of significant regions in the parameter space for specific types of black holes.

Black-hole spectroscopy, the no-hair theorem, and GW150914: Kerr versus Occam

Juan Calderon Bustillo et al.

Summary: The no-hair theorem suggests that astrophysical black holes can be fully described by their mass and spin. Perturbed black holes emit gravitational waves in the form of damped sinusoids, known as quasinormal modes. Tests of the theorem attempt to identify these modes without prior assumptions on the perturbation source. Applying this framework to GW150914, the detection of the first overtone supported the theorem, but imposing prior assumptions can further constrain parameters and favor the Kerr black-hole hypothesis over hairy object alternatives.

Visibility of black hole shadows in low-luminosity AGN

Thomas Bronzwaer et al.

Summary: Accreting black holes often display a dark central region called the black hole shadow, conveying information about the black hole's mass and spin. The observed central brightness depression, or image shadow, can differ from the black hole shadow due to factors such as evacuation of the innermost region of the accretion flow and obscuration by optically thick regions. The study found that a compact and optically thin emission region allows for measurement of the black hole shadow size with an accuracy of 5%, indicating that certain conditions must be met for accurate measurements.
