Shadow, deflection angle and quasinormal modes of Born-Infeld charged black holes

Khadije Jafarzade et al.

Summary: This paper investigates black holes in the consistent Aoki-Gorji-Mukohyama theory of 4D EGB gravity with Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics. It examines optical features such as shadow radius, energy emission rate, and deflection angle, showing that variations in theory parameters have specific effects on optical features of the black hole solution, and this model can be tested through astrophysical observations.

Double shadows of reflection-asymmetric wormholes supported by positive energy thin-shells

Merce Guerrero et al.

Summary: This study examines reflection-asymmetric thin-shell wormholes within Palatini f(R) gravity and establishes conditions for stable wormholes supported by positive-energy matter sources. It also identifies parameter subsets for positioning the shell radius above the event horizon but below the photon sphere. Additionally, it demonstrates the phenomenon of two photon spheres allowing observers to see double shadows due to the effective potential on each side of the wormhole.

Testing the nature of Gauss-Bonnet gravity by four-dimensional rotating black hole shadow

Shao-Wen Wei et al.

Summary: The recent discovery of a novel four-dimensional static and spherically symmetric Gauss-Bonnet black hole provides a promising opportunity to test Gauss-Bonnet gravity through astronomical observations. This study investigates the shadows cast by nonrotating and rotating Gauss-Bonnet black holes, finding that the metric parameter alpha affects the shadow's size and shape, with negative values being preferred. The comparison with the Kerr black hole shows that the shadow is more distorted for positive alpha and less distorted for negative alpha.

Observational signature and additional photon rings of an asymmetric thin-shell wormhole

Jun Peng et al.

Summary: The study presents a distinct shadow mechanism from the asymmetric thin-shell wormhole and investigates the appearance of an accretion disk around it. The analysis reveals additional photon rings and a potential lensing band between highly demagnified photon rings, providing an observational signature to distinguish asymmetric thin-shell wormholes from black holes.

Light ring and the appearance of matter accreted by black holes

Vitor Cardoso et al.

Summary: The study finds that as bright spots are accreted by black holes, the emitted radiation decreases exponentially as the object approaches the event horizon, and exhibits a blueshift at late times. These universal properties serve as clear signatures of the existence of light rings in spacetime, and are not particularly sensitive to details near the horizon.

Can different black holes cast the same shadow?

Haroldo C. D. Lima Junior et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of two different black holes projecting exactly the same shadow, presenting the necessary and sufficient conditions for a static black hole to have the same shadow as Schwarzschild. It categorizes shadow-degenerate geometries into two classes and provides examples in both static and axi-symmetric cases. The examples demonstrate that nonisometric black hole spacetimes can cast the same shadow, although the lensing is generally different.

Shadows and negative precession in non-Kerr spacetime

Parth Bambhaniya et al.

Summary: The shadow is not only a property of black holes, but can also be cast by naked singularities. Novel features of the shadow of naked singularities differentiate them from black holes observationally. Negative precession of bound timelike orbits and the simultaneous presence of shadow in deformed Kerr naked singularity spacetime may indicate the presence of a deformed Kerr naked singularity.

Relating black hole shadow to quasinormal modes for rotating black holes

Huan Yang

Summary: In this work, we investigate the connection between critical curves (shadows) and quasinormal mode frequencies of Kerr black holes, showing that the shadow seen by a distant observer can be mapped to a family of quasinormal modes. The possibility of testing this relation using spaceborne gravitational wave detectors and the next-generation Event Horizon Telescope is discussed.

Shadow cast by a rotating black hole with anisotropic matter

Bum-Hoon Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the shadow cast induced by a rotating black hole with anisotropic matter, deriving a Killing tensor representing the hidden symmetry and analyzing the complete integrability of geodesic motion. The study also examines the effect of the anisotropic matter on shadow observables and concludes that it impacts one side of the black hole being brighter.

QED effect on a black hole shadow

Zezhou Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the shadows of static black holes with magnetic monopoles and neutral black holes in magnetic fields were investigated using numerical backward ray-tracing method. The relation between shadow radius and coupling constant for black holes with magnetic monopoles, and the linear relation between eccentricity and coupling constant for neutral black holes in uniform magnetic fields were obtained. It was found that shadow curves can be well approximated by ellipses in most cases, except under certain conditions of strong magnetic fields and observer positions. The study was extended to include a neutral static black hole surrounded by a current loop.

Shadow of nulllike and timelike naked singularities without photon spheres

Dipanjan Dey et al.

Summary: This paper explores the general conditions for shadows to occur without a photon sphere in a spacetime caused by central naked singularities, and introduces classes of spacetimes with such properties. It shows that timelike naked singularities can have shadows of varying sizes compared to a black hole, while nulllike naked singularities always have shadows smaller than a black hole. These novel features could potentially help in distinguishing between black holes and naked singularities observationally.

Shadows of accelerating black holes

Ming Zhang et al.

Summary: The acceleration of a black hole causes circular orbits for photons with fixed radial and latitude coordinates to deviate from the equatorial plane, altering the properties of the black hole shadow. As the acceleration increases, the latitude of the circular orbit also increases, leading to an increase in the observer's inclination angles, resulting in maximum shadow radius and distortion for an accelerating Kerr black hole.

Summary: This paper obtains an effective metric describing a regular and rotating magnetic black hole solution and studies various properties including BH shadow, QNMs, QPOs, and observational constraints on the EYM parameter. The study shows interesting correlations between the magnetic charge, shadow radius, and QNMs of scalar and electromagnetic fields, also distinguishing the rotating EYM black hole from the Kerr-Newman black hole.
