Exergetic, exergoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental aspects of an industrial-scale molasses-based ethanol production plant

Sama Amid et al.

Summary: An industrial-scale molasses-based bioethanol production system was analyzed using exergy, exergoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental analyses. The study determined the exergetic efficiency, environmental impact, and cost factors of the process, highlighting natural gas consumption as a key exergetic hotspot. Consideration of more sustainable alternatives and utilization of low-cost waste feedstocks are recommended to improve process viability.

Exergoenvironmental analysis of hydrogen production through glycerol steam reforming

D. H. D. Rocha et al.

Summary: The study found that by recycling the residual gas with high concentration of water and CO2, the glycerol reforming capacity can be maximized while increasing the system's overall exergy efficiency. This process was evaluated in three different scenarios regarding reform gas processing from technical and environmental perspectives.

Economic assessment of hydrogen and electricity cogeneration through steam reforming-SOFC system in the Brazilian biodiesel industry

T. A. Z. de Souza et al.

Summary: The increase in environmental concern has led to a rise in biodiesel production and subsequently a surplus of glycerol, resulting in plummeting prices. Research evaluating the economic potential of hydrogen production from glycerol in the Brazilian biodiesel industry found the project financially unsuitable due to high costs. Despite the potential to sell hydrogen directly, the use of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells for electricity production was deemed impractical due to high investment costs.

Assessment of electricity generation from biogas in Benin from energy and economic viability perspectives

Johnson Herlich Roslee Mensah et al.

Summary: The key factors of energy and sanitation are crucial for economic development and quality of life for any nation's population. Challenges faced by less developed nations like Benin can be potentially overcome with sewage treatment plants with biogas energy recovery. However, the projects highlighted in the study were deemed unfeasible economically due to high implementation costs, leading to the consideration of mandatory energy rates to ensure return on investment. Results obtained can be used for future research and decision making in Benin's energy and sanitation sectors.
