Effect of fiber content on mechanical performance and cracking characteristics of ultra-high-performance seawater sea-sand concrete (UHP-SSC)

Bo-Tao Huang et al.

Summary: This study developed a new type of ultra-high-performance seawater sea-sand concrete (UHP-SSC) by using ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibers to address the challenges of sustainable marine and coastal construction. Experimental results showed that increasing fiber content in UHP-SSC significantly improved tensile strength and strain capacity while slightly decreasing compressive strength. A probabilistic model was successfully used to estimate the allowed tensile strain of UHP-SSC based on crack width and cumulative probability in practical applications.

Bo-Tao Huang et al.

Summary: This study assesses and models the crack characteristics of Seawater sea-sand Engineered Cementitious Composites (SS-ECC), exploring the influence of sea-sand size, fiber length, and fiber dosage. Proposed methods, including a five-dimensional representation and a probabilistic model, facilitate the design of SS-ECC in marine and coastal structures by considering crack characteristics and mechanical properties comprehensively.

Recent advances in molecular dynamics simulation of the N-A-S-H geopolymer system: modeling, structural analysis, and dynamics

Ling-Yu Xu et al.

Summary: Geopolymer binders have attracted attention for their formation mechanism, molecular structure types, and evolution of amorphous products, but face challenges in numerical modeling. Recent MD simulation studies focus on N-A-S-H type gels, collecting and evaluating data related to modeling methods, thermodynamics, structural properties, and dynamic behavior. MD simulation enables exploration of microscale properties and structural evolution of geopolymer materials.

Engineered/strain-hardening cementitious composites (ECC/SHCC) with an ultra-high compressive strength over 210 MPa

Bo-Tao Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, ultra-high-strength ECC (UHS-ECC) with a compressive strength over 210 MPa was successfully developed for the first time, showing excellent tensile strain capacity and fine crack width through the combined use of polyethylene and steel fibers in a dense matrix. Two new material indices were proposed to assess the overall performance of UHS-ECC. The developed UHS-ECC records the highest compressive strength and the best overall performance compared with existing high-strength ECC.
