Albumin in adult cardiac surgery: a narrative review

Ciara Hanley et al.

Summary: Human albumin solution, imported into Canada at a cost of approximately $21 million CAD per annum, is widely used in cardiac surgical patients but lacks clear evidence of superiority over crystalloids in improving outcomes. There is a general lack of high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of albumin in this patient population.

Vasopressor Therapy in Cardiac Surgery-An Experts' Consensus Statement

Fabio Guarracino et al.

Summary: In patients undergoing cardiac surgery, vasopressors play a crucial role in restoring and optimizing systemic vascular tone. Experts recommend against using dopamine and methylene blue for treating vasoplegic shock, and suggest considering early addition of a second vasopressor or using vasopressin in certain situations.
