Detecting suicidal thoughts: The power of ecological momentary assessment

Ilana Gratch et al.

Summary: The study found that the severity of suicidal ideation assessed through EMA was positively correlated with scores on the retrospective measurement. However, about 58% of participants reported suicidal ideation on EMA but denied having any ideation on the retrospective measure. Participants who endorsed suicidal ideation during EMA but not on the retrospective measure were not less likely to have a history of suicidal behavior compared to those who reported ideation in both formats.
