Financing the newsvendor with preferential credit: bank vs. manufacturer

Yuxiang Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates how preferential credit based on retailers' credit line affects capital-constraint retailers' operational decisions, taking into account the impact of different credit lines and discounted rates offered by banks and manufacturers. The study finds that debt-financed retailers prefer trade credit over bank financing, especially in cases of high sourcing demand and financing from institutes with high risk preferences. Retailers tend to use loans with higher trade credit ratios when opting for portfolio credit conditions.
