Optimal advance selling strategy with information provision for omni-channel retailers

Summary: Demand information and consumer valuation uncertainty have significant impacts on consumers' purchasing behavior and retail operations. This study examines the profitability of omni-channel pre-ordering strategy as a solution to information transparency for new products launching. The analysis shows that the appropriateness of advance selling depends on related costs and hassle cost of solving uncertain value. Optimal prices and ordering quantities for different strategies are also derived. The results highlight the importance of considering costs in consumer purchasing decisions and the potential benefits of omni-channel pre-ordering for retailers.
