A 3D nanostructured calcium-aluminum-silicate scaffold with hierarchical meso-macroporosity for bone tissue regeneration: Fabrication, sintering behavior, surface modification and in vitro studies

Ashkan Bigham et al.

Summary: This study reports the fabrication of highly porous Gehlenite scaffold for the first time, with and without surface modification, and its application of PCL-Forsterite nanocomposite. By optimizing the sintering temperature and coating concentrations, the PCL-Forsterite nanocomposite-coated scaffold shows great potential for bone tissue regeneration due to its excellent physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Zn-substituted Mg2SiO4 nanoparticles-incorporated PCL-silk fibroin composite scaffold: A multifunctional platform towards bone tissue regeneration

Ashkan Bigham et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a ternary scaffold composed of polycaprolactone (PCL)/silk fibroin (SF)/Zn-substituted Mg2SiO4 nanoparticles for bone tissue regeneration. After synthesis and characterization of the nanoparticles followed by incorporation into the scaffold, the ternary scaffold showed improved biological properties and desirable textural properties, making it a promising candidate for bone tissue regeneration.

Novel bilayer electrospun poly(caprolactone)/silk fibroin/strontium carbonate fibrous nanocomposite membrane for guided bone regeneration

Niloofar Etemadi et al.

Summary: The study involved the fabrication of a double-layered nanofibrous membrane with enhanced mechanical properties and bioactivity through electrospinning. Addition of SrCO3 was found to increase ALP activity, calcium deposition, and bioactivity. The membrane containing 20wt% SrCO3, 20wt% SF, and 60wt% PCL was chosen as the optimal sample for guided bone regeneration.
