Cyto/Biocompatibility of Dopamine Combined with the Antioxidant Grape Seed-Derived Polyphenol Compounds in Solid Lipid Nanoparticles

Adriana Trapani et al.

Summary: The study aimed to co-administer dopamine (DA) and grape seed-derived proanthocyanidins (GSE) using Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN) to increase neurotransmitter levels and reduce oxidative stress related to Parkinson's disease. Results showed that GSE on SLN surface effectively prevented DA autoxidation and enhanced cell viability when co-administered with the neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine. The SLN formulations containing DA and GSE have potential for non-invasive nose-to-brain delivery.

Intranasal delivery of nanostructured lipid carriers, solid lipid nanoparticles and nanoemulsions: A current overview of in vivo studies

Claudia Pina Costa et al.

Summary: The management of CNS disorders is challenging due to the need for drugs to cross the BBB and reach the brain. Using the intranasal route combined with lipid-based nanocarriers has shown promising results in targeting drugs to the brain. Although the exact mechanism remains unclear, these systems are more effective than other routes and are expected to be approved by regulatory authorities in the future.
