Growth-differentiation-factor 15 levels in obese and healthy pregnancies: Relation to insulin resistance and insulin secretory function

Summary: This study found that GDF15 levels significantly increased during pregnancy and were associated with factors such as BMI, fat-free mass, incidence of nausea, and fetal sex. The upregulation of GDF15 during pregnancy was associated with increased HOMA-B in women with obesity and reduced fasting glucose in all women.

Practice Patterns for Prevention of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting and Antiemetic Guideline Adherence Based on Real-World Prescribing Data

Matti Aapro et al.

Summary: This study reveals low adherence to antiemetic guidelines in highly emetogenic chemotherapy setting in daily clinical practice across five European countries, with only 15% of patients receiving guideline-recommended NK(1)RA-5-HT(3)RA-dexamethasone prophylaxis and 12% receiving no antiemetics. Strategies to improve adherence to guidelines are urgently needed.

Central and peripheral emetic loci contribute to vomiting evoked by the Akt inhibitor MK-2206 in the least shrew model of emesis

Weixia Zhong et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that pharmacological inhibition of Akt can induce vomiting through both central and peripheral mechanisms, involving multiple emetic receptors. The Akt inhibitors perifosine and MK-2206 both induced vomiting in the least shrew model, with MK-2206 also activating ERK1/2 in the DVC and enteric nervous system. Various antiemetics attenuated the emetic response to MK-2206 to different degrees.
