Rap2B promotes the proliferation and migration of human glioma cells via activation of the ERK pathway

Guohong Shi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Rap2B is highly expressed in human glioma and plays a role in promoting proliferation and migration of glioma cells. By increasing the expression of MMP2 and MMP9, Rap2B may participate in these processes through the activation of the ERK pathway.

Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentially Affect Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion: A 2D-DIGE Proteomic Analysis

Shenjie Li et al.

Summary: The conditioned medium from BM-MSCs inhibits the proliferation of C6 cells but promotes their migration and invasion. Proteomic analysis revealed differentially expressed proteins in C6 cells exposed to the BM-MSC-conditioned medium, some of which are related to cell proliferation and differentiation, while others are associated with motility and the cytoskeleton, potentially modulating invasion and migration of tumor cells. This study suggests that BM-MSCs could be genetically modified for tumor-suppressive factors in future tumor-selective targeting carriers.

C3G downregulation induces the acquisition of a mesenchymal phenotype that enhances aggressiveness of glioblastoma cells

Sara Manzano et al.

Summary: The downregulation of C3G in GBM promotes migration and invasion of GBM cells, affects proliferation, impairs EGFR signaling, and upregulates activation of other receptor tyrosine kinases through different pathways. The levels of C3G may be crucial in discriminating GBM patient responders to various RTK inhibition protocols. Patients with low C3G expression may not respond well to EGFR inhibitors.

Interactions between cancer cells and immune cells drive transitions to mesenchymal-like states in glioblastoma

Toshiro Hara et al.

Summary: The mesenchymal subtype of glioblastoma is believed to be influenced by both cancer cell-intrinsic alterations and external cellular interactions, with macrophages inducing a transition of glioblastoma cells into mesenchymal-like states. This transition is mediated by macrophage-derived oncostatin M (OSM) interacting with its receptors on glioblastoma cells, leading to the activation of STAT3. This study also reveals that mesenchymal-like glioblastoma states are associated with increased expression of a mesenchymal program in macrophages and enhanced cytotoxicity of T cells, suggesting potential therapeutic implications.
