Targeting hepatocyte carbohydrate transport to mimic fasting and calorie restriction

Jacqueline Kading et al.

Summary: The pervasion of three daily meals and snacks has coincided with a rise in obesity and cardiometabolic disorders. Research shows that calorie restriction and intermittent fasting have beneficial effects on cardiometabolic and other diseases, but sustainable adherence to strict lifestyle changes is rare.

Use of ketogenic diets in the treatment of central nervous system diseases: a systematic review

Magnus G. Christensen et al.

Summary: This systematic review investigates the use and efficacy of ketogenic diets, modified Atkins diet, and medium-chain triglyceride diet in patients with epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. The results show that ketogenic diets can reduce seizures in epilepsy patients, modified Atkins diet can improve memory in Alzheimer's patients, and medium-chain triglyceride diet can enhance motor and nonmotor functions in Parkinson's patients.

A review on preventive role of ketogenic diet (KD) in CNS disorders from the gut microbiota perspective

Kajal Rawat et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in neurological diseases through the gut-brain axis, with factors such as diet and stress affecting colonization patterns. Recent studies have shown that the ketogenic diet can remodel the gut microbiome and have protective effects on CNS disorders. Understanding the interaction between gut microbes and KD may provide novel therapeutic approaches for neurological disorders.
