On briefing the surface modifications of polylactic acid: A scope for betterment of biomedical structures

Guravtar Singh Mann et al.

Summary: Polylactic acid (PLA) is considered as a significant biodegradable polymer with potential to replace petroleum-based polymers in various biomedical applications. However, its intrinsic limitations in surface integrity, cell adhesion, and degradation hinder its practical implications. This review article categorizes posttreatment processes to overcome these barriers and summarizes the impacts of different classes of posttreatment technologies on PLA and its composites.
