Taguchi-based process optimization for activation of agro-food waste biochar and performance test for dye adsorption

Biswa R. Patra et al.

Summary: The optimization of process parameters for biochar activation is crucial for enhancing its surface area and adsorptive potentials. KOH-assisted chemical activation of biochar at 800 degrees C for 90 min was found to be optimal with higher specific surface areas. The performances of biochar and activated carbon samples were evaluated through the adsorption of common dyes, showing promising results for activated biochar derived from food waste and agricultural crop residues.

Supercritical Water Gasification of Lignin and Cellulose Catalyzed with Co-precipitated CeO2-ZrO2

Changqing Cao et al.

Summary: The co-precipitated CeO2-ZrO2 catalyst enhanced the gasification efficiency and hydrogen production of lignin and cellulose in supercritical water, with a more significant impact at lower temperatures. The catalyst reduced cyclopentenone and furan derivatives while increasing refractory phenols in the aqueous product, with CeO2 identified as the main active component catalyzing gasification through redox reactions. ZrO2 improved CeO2's catalytic activity by lowering the reduction temperature in hydrogen, increasing dispersion, and facilitating H-2 adsorption on the catalyst surface.
