Experimental study of gas-liquid-solid flow characteristics in slurry Taylor flow-based multiphase microreactors

Zhengbiao Peng et al.

Summary: The study examines the gas-liquid-solid flow patterns and characteristics in slurry Taylor flow-based multiphase microreactors, determining their dependence on operating conditions. The research identified four STF patterns based on bubble surface distortion and particle travel between slugs, with different patterns occurring at varying fluid velocities. Empirical correlations were developed to predict bubble rising velocity, bubble size, and slug length in STFRs, valid across a wide range of fluids and channel sizes.

Intensification of gas-liquid two-phase flow and mass transfer in microchannels by sudden expansions

Shizhe Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that sudden expansion structures can significantly enhance gas-liquid mass transfer; the enhancement factor increases with the number of sudden expansion units and gas-liquid flow rate ratio, while pressure drop shows only slight elevation; the effective mass transfer enhancement efficiency was assessed based on energy consumption and enhancement factor.

A step toward the numerical simulation of catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene in Taylor flow at practical conditions

Mino Woo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline in a microreactor through numerical simulations. The results show that increasing bubble velocity enhances mass transfer and aniline production rate. The reaction is found to be mass transfer limited even with a channel height of 100 mm, and is independent of the initial concentration of hydrogen in liquid nitrobenzene.
