Carbon sources to enhance the biosynthesis of useful secondary metabolites in Fusarium verticillioides submerged cultures

Fernanda Achimon et al.

Summary: The study examined the effect of different carbon sources on secondary metabolite biosynthesis in Fusarium verticillioides submerged cultures. It was found that the biosynthesis of useful metabolites was highest in cultures with fructose, lactose, and xylose, while the biosynthesis of harmful mycotoxins fumonisins was lowest in these carbon sources.

Effect of Naturally Occurring Compounds on Fumonisin Production and fum Gene Expression in Fusarium verticillioides

Davide Ferrigo et al.

Summary: Ellagic acid and isoeugenol were identified as the most effective natural phenolic compounds for inhibiting fungal growth and reducing toxin production in maize contaminated with Fusarium verticillioides. Proper dosages of these compounds are crucial to prevent conditions that promote mycotoxin biosynthesis. These phenolic compounds modulate biosynthesis at the transcription level in different ways depending on the strain.
