Engineering of nickel-cobalt oxide nanostructures based on biomass material for high performance supercapacitor and catalytic water splitting

Summary: The study reported the synthesis of a porous composite made from chicken feathers and nickel and cobalt salts, which demonstrated remarkable electrochemical properties for use in supercapacitors and hydrogen and oxygen evolution. The composite showed high specific capacitance, energy density, and power density as a supercapacitor, and also exhibited notable catalytic ability towards HER and OER. The optimal electrocatalyst displayed low overpotentials for both HER and OER, as well as a relatively low cell voltage for overall water electrolysis.

A High-Performance Symmetric Supercapacitor from Porous Activated Carbon under Compression

Summary: This study successfully demonstrated the feasibility of constructing high-performance supercapacitors from potato-derived activated carbon, showing excellent electrochemical performance with high specific capacitance and energy density in 6m KOH aqueous electrolyte. Increasing the compaction of electrode materials under compressive stress has the potential to further enhance the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors.
