PtCooncontinuous-phasegraphene asPEMfuel cell catalyst

Fatma Gul Boyaci San et al.

Summary: The research shows that increasing the atomic ratio of PtCo up to 1:3 significantly enhances the electrode activity for both membrane and gas diffusion layer, resulting in higher power densities. In contrast, the best performance for the cathode is achieved with 1:2 and 1:1 PtCo compositions on the membrane and gas diffusion layer respectively.

Numerical simulation of particulate matter interaction with the gas diffusion layer of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells under various relative humidity conditions

Amir Panahi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction of particulate matter (PM) in the gas stream and their capture efficiency by fibrous structure of gas diffusion layers (GDLs) at different levels of relative humidity (RH) and particle sizes. It is found that high humidity levels result in higher diameter and lower density of PM, leading to lower air density and particle bounce. The increase in humidity level decreases capture efficiency for small particles but increases it for large particles, highlighting the importance of installing a filter for removing large particles in the reactant gas supply line to prevent PM accumulation in GDL structure.

A novel hydrophilic-modified gas diffusion layer for proton exchange membrane fuel cells operating in low humidification

Zhicheng Liu et al.

Summary: A novel hydrophilic-modified gas diffusion layer (GDL) with Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) has been fabricated to improve the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) under low humidity. The addition of PAN in the cathode GDL significantly increases the power density by 30% under low humidity, without affecting the performance under full humidity.

Influence of perforated gas diffusion layer micropore shape parameters on water removal in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell flow channel

Xuan Xie et al.

Summary: The impact of microporous GDL flow channel with different depths, radiuses, and spacings on water transport and water removal is discussed. The resistance can be reduced, and water removal can be accelerated greatly in the perforated GDL. When the micropore depth is 50 mu m, radius is 50 mu m, and spacing is 200 mu m, the flow channel has a better drag reduction performance.
