Construction and photocatalysis of carbon quantum dots/layered mesoporous titanium dioxide (CQDs/LM-TiO2) composites

Li-Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared using citric acid as a carbon source, and then compounded with layered mesoporous titanium dioxide (LM-TiO2) to form composites. The addition of CQDs greatly enhanced the light absorption intensity of LM-TiO2 in the ultraviolet range and improved the degradation rate of organic pollutants compared to simple TiO2 and LM-TiO2.

Cellular uptake of chitosan and its role in antifungal action against Penicillium expansum

Yemei Sun et al.

Summary: Chitosan treatment affected the transcriptome and physiological pathways of Penicillium expansum, with up-regulation of the gene encoding clathrin adaptor protein mu-subunit (PeCAM) involved in clathrin-dependent endocytosis. Deletion of PeCAM resulted in morphological changes in fungal cells and reduced sensitivity to chitosan, indicating that chitosan uptake is mediated by clathrin-dependent endocytosis and plays a crucial role in its antifungal activity.

In-situ immobilization of ZIF-67 on wood aerogel for effective removal of tetracycline from water

Guanyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite adsorbent material, ZIF-67@WA, was successfully fabricated by anchoring ZIF-67 rhombic dodecahedron on wood aerogel to improve the practical application of MOF materials in pollutant removal from wastewater. The composite showed excellent tetracycline adsorption capacity, comparable to previously reported adsorbents, and could be recycled multiple times with minimal secondary contamination. The study suggests that ZIF-67@WA has the potential to effectively remove tetracycline from water due to its superior adsorption performance, compressibility, light weight, and facile separation.

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple one-step method was developed to impart superparamagnetism to ZIF-8, resulting in the preparation of magnetic ZIF8 with high crystallinity and surface area. This magnetic ZIF8 demonstrated efficient adsorption of Congo Red from water, following a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and a monolayer chemisorption process with a maximal adsorption capacity of 210.5 mg g(-1). The results also indicated simultaneous interaction between the sulfonic groups of Congo Red and the magnetic ZIF-8.
