A New Methodology for the Survey and Evaluation of Seismic Damage and Vulnerability Entailed by Structural Interventions on Masonry Buildings: Validation on the Town of Castelsantangelo sul Nera (MC), Italy

Marco Vettore et al.

Summary: Retrofitting or strengthening interventions on masonry buildings may result in unexpected seismic behavior, defined as hybrid. Existing post-earthquake visual assessment procedures cannot define the behavior of altered masonry buildings. This study proposes adding a new section specifically dedicated to structural interventions to an existing survey form. Application of this survey form to buildings with structural interventions helped define vulnerability classes, showing that poor execution or conception of interventions can lead to high vulnerability classes.
