Designing a novel cactus-like nickel cobalt phosphide based electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution

Tayiba Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized nickel-cobalt phosphide (Ni-Co-P) anchored on carbon fiber cloth (CFC) for advanced electrocatalytic applications, exhibiting unprecedented catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The high activity of this catalyst is mainly attributed to its large surface area and a large number of active sites, as deduced from cyclic-voltammetry (CV) and Tafel plot results.

CO oxidation on Ni and Cu embedded graphdiyne as efficient noble metal-free catalysts: A first-principles density-functional theory investigation

Xinyue Liu et al.

Summary: The research focuses on exploring the potential of using graphdiyne (GDY) as a promising substrate for single atom catalysts (SACs) in CO oxidation reactions. The study reveals that CO adsorption on Ni-GDY or co-adsorption of CO and O-2 on Cu-GDY is more favorable than O-2 adsorption, leading to a preference for CO oxidation starting with the LH reaction with a lower energy barrier.

Exceptional Cocatalyst-Free Photo-Enhanced Piezocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution of Carbon Nitride Nanosheets from Strong In-Plane Polarization

Cheng Hu et al.

Summary: Utilizing the piezocatalytic and photo-enhanced properties of graphitic carbon nitride, this work significantly improves the efficiency of hydrogen production. It not only demonstrates the potential of g-C3N4 as a piezo-semiconductor for catalyzing H-2 evolution, but also paves the way for converting solar and mechanical energy through photo-mediated piezocatalytic reactions.

Atomic nickel cluster decorated defect-rich copper for enhanced C2 product selectivity in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction

Xiaolong Zhang et al.

Summary: This work introduces a coordination enabled galvanic replacement method to decorate atomic Ni clusters on defect-rich Cu surface, resulting in significant enhancement of C2 products production in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction. With a surface Ni/Cu ratio of 0.82 %, a 7-fold increase in selectivity for C2 products was observed compared to pristine Cu, attributed to the chemisorption of CO2 on Ni decorated surfaces changing the rate determining step for *CO formation. The catalytic mechanism demonstrated in the Cu-Ni system points to new directions for the development of advanced bimetallic electrocatalysts for producing multi-carbon materials from CO2 reduction.
