Understanding of K and Mg co-promoter effect in ethylene oxychlorination by operando UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy

Hongfei Ma et al.

Summary: A comprehensive kinetic study was conducted on CuCl2/gamma-Al2O3-based catalysts to investigate the co-promoter effect in ethylene oxychlorination. The promoter effects were found to influence the Cu2+ reduction or Cu+ oxidation in the catalytic cycle. K-doped catalyst greatly increased the oxidation step rate, while Mg-doped catalyst enhanced the reduction step rate. Co-doped K and Mg catalyst showed intermediate effects on both reaction rate and Cu oxidation state. Steady-state reactions closely matched the rates predicted by the rate-diagram.

Prediction and Tuning of the Defects in the Redox Catalysts: Ethylene Oxychlorination

Endre Fenes et al.

Summary: A general method is presented for building a new kinetic model of the redox reaction cycle by combining kinetics of reduction- and oxidation steps to predict the formation of defects and reaction products in solid catalysts. The defect concentration can be adjusted by manipulating the relative rates of reduction- and oxidation steps.

In situ X-ray absorption study of Cu species in Cu-CHA catalysts for NH3-SCR during temperature-programmed reduction in NO/NH3

Chiara Negri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the oxidation-reduction states of copper ions during NO/NH3 reduction process using techniques such as X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy, with results showing complete reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I) between 50-290°C. Multiple Cu(II)/Cu(I) reduction events were observed, with the first one associated with Cu(II) hydroxy/ammonia complexes and the second one with ammonia-solvated Cu-nitrate species. Nitrate concentration in the catalysts was found to depend on zeolite Cu loading and pretreatment conditions, with ammonia solvation increasing the number of available Cu(II) sites for nitrate formation.

Multivariate Curve Resolution: 50 years addressing the mixture analysis problem-A review

Anna de Juan et al.

Summary: Multivariate Curve Resolution (MCR) is an algorithm designed to address the mixture analysis problem by expressing the original data through a bilinear model of pure component contributions. Since its inception in 1971, MCR methods have evolved to adapt to diverse scientific scenarios, incorporating new modeling tasks and mathematical properties. The continuous adaptation and application of MCR to new measurements and domains make it a mature yet lively methodology with potential for further advancement.

Kinetic modeling of dynamic changing active sites in a Mars-van Krevelen type reaction: Ethylene oxychlorination on K-doped CuCl2/Al2O3

Hongfei Ma et al.

Summary: A kinetic model considering the dynamic nature of active sites in Mars-van Krevelen type reactions was developed to predict the evolution of reactant and product composition, as well as CuCl2 concentration in the solid catalyst. By combining transient and steady-state kinetic modeling, the model successfully described the transient response of reduction and oxidation steps, as well as the reaction at steady state under different conditions, providing a better understanding of Mars-van Krevelen type reactions.

Acetylene hydrochlorination over supported ionic liquid phase (SILP) gold-based catalyst: Stabilization of cationic Au species via chemical activation of hydrogen chloride and corresponding mechanisms

Jia Zhao et al.

Summary: A new strategy was reported in this study to activate HCl using the Au-SILP technology with [N(CN)(2)(-)] anion, leading to improved stability of gold-based catalysts in acetylene hydrochlorination. This strategy enhances the reaction path and catalyst stability without changing the reaction triggered by acetylene adsorption.
