Transport and trajectory of cough-induced bimodal aerosol in an air-conditioned space

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the transport characteristics and trajectory of coughed aerosols under the influence of conditioned air ventilation using computational fluid dynamics. An experimental system was built to validate the predictions, showing good agreement. Results suggest that the aerosol source location and ambient air movement play crucial roles in determining aerosol trajectory.

LES study of the respiratory airflow field in a whole-lung airway model considering steady respiration

Xinguang Cui et al.

Summary: Researchers used a whole-lung airway model incorporating a mouth-throat model to analyze airflow structures, showing the presence of shear layer and vortical flow in the lower airway during inspiration, and highly unsteady airflow structures, including reversed laryngeal jet, during expiration. This study highlights the need for further investigations into airflow dynamics in the lower airway during the expiration phase to better understand airflow properties in human respiratory process.

CFD Optimization of the Pre-Chamber Geometry for a Gasoline Spark Ignition Engine

Haiwen Ge et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient optimization method was developed based on Bayesian updating strategy for a spark-ignition engine equipped with pre-chamber. Utilizing 3D computational fluid dynamics simulation and machine learning methods, the pre-chamber was optimized to achieve the desired combustion phasing. The study identified the radius of the pre-chamber as the most influential design parameter for engine performance through multiple iterations and combustion analysis.
