Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells-derived exosomal microRNA-451a represses epithelial-mesenchymal transition of hepatocellular carcinoma cells by inhibiting ADAM10.

Yunxiuxiu Xu et al.

Summary: MiR-451a is up-regulated while ADAM10 is down-regulated in HCC cells after co-culture with HucMSC-derived exosomes, leading to suppression of paclitaxel resistance, cell cycle transition, proliferation, migration, invasion, and promotion of apoptosis of HCC cells. ADAM10 is verified to be a target gene of miR-451a, and ADAM10-MUT promotes HCC process independent of miR-451a mimic. HucMSC-derived exosomal miR-451a could restrict the epithelial-mesenchymal transition of HCC cells by targeting ADAM10, providing new targets for HCC treatment.

Revisiting Extracellular RNA Release, Processing, and Function

Juan Pablo Tosar et al.

Summary: This passage discusses the importance of both selective and nonselective mechanisms for RNA release into the extracellular environment, providing new perspectives on RNA-mediated intercellular communication with an analogy to communication through social media. It also highlights how technical limitations have restricted the study of some of the most abundant exRNAs, which may have a stronger impact on recipient cells compared to low abundance miRNAs.

Bone mesenchymal stem cells derived extracellular vesicles promote TRAIL-related apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells via the delivery of microRNA-20a-3p

Lu Deng et al.

Summary: This study revealed that bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs)-derived miR-20a-3p targets c-FLIP and increases TRAIL levels in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, promoting TRAIL-related apoptosis.
