Mesoarchean (ultra)-high temperature and high-pressure metamorphism along a microblock suture: Evidence from Earth's oldest khondalites in southern India

Bing Yu et al.

Summary: This study presents new petrological and U-Pb age data from one of Earth's oldest khondalite belts, revealing a high P-T metamorphism during the Mesoarchean period, indicating plate tectonics had been established on Earth by at least around 3.1 billion years ago.

High Ba-Sr adakitic charnockite suite from the Nagercoil Block, southern India: Vestiges of Paleoproterozoic arc and implications for Columbia to Gondwana

Pin Gao et al.

Summary: The Nagercoil block in India's Southern Granulite Terrane consists mainly of charnockitic rocks and felsic gneisses. Studies on these rocks reveal transition from adakitic to non-adakitic magmatic rocks, with enrichment in LREEs and LILEs, and depletion in HREEs and HFSEs. Zircon U-Pb dating indicates magmatic ages ranging from 1983 Ma to 2046 Ma, and metamorphic ages ranging from 502 Ma to 547 Ma. The rocks show two prominent age peaks at 1987 Ma and 568 Ma, suggesting multiple crustal evolution cycles.
