Polycentric Urban Development and its Determinants in China: A Geospatial Big Data Perspective

Yongqiang Lv et al.

Summary: The study found that the urban structure of Chinese cities at the prefectural level and above is mainly polycentric, with cities with higher populations more likely to exhibit polycentric characteristics. In contrast to American cities, polycentricity in Chinese cities is primarily influenced by population factors, while commuting costs have a weaker impact on urban structure. Economic development and agglomeration economics are associated with polycentricity in Chinese cities.

A 100 m population grid in the CONUS by disaggregating census data with open-source Microsoft building footprints

Xiao Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents an approach to generating a 100 m population grid in the Contiguous United States (CONUS) by disaggregating US census records using building footprints and land-use data. The results confirm that this method can provide a better representation of population distribution within complex urban areas.
