Evaluation of sweet sorghum genotypes for bioethanol yield and related traits

Birgul Guden et al.

Summary: This study characterized global sweet sorghum accessions for bioethanol yield and related traits, showing wide variability among genotypes. The highest values for extractable stalk juice yield, bioethanol yield, and juice Brix content were recorded for specific genotypes, with those from the USA exhibiting high values. Positive and very high correlations were observed between bioethanol yield and extractable stalk juice yield, as well as fructose and glucose concentration.

Ecosystem-scale biogeochemical fluxes from three bioenergy crop candidates: How energy sorghum compares to maize and miscanthus

Caitlin E. Moore et al.

Summary: This study compared the ecosystem-scale C, N, water, and energy fluxes of energy sorghum, maize, and miscanthus during a typical growing season in the Midwest United States. Maize had the highest gross primary productivity and evapotranspiration, while energy sorghum was the most efficient water user. Nitrous oxide flux was higher from maize and energy sorghum compared to miscanthus, reflecting their different agronomic management practices.
