Characterization of bio-nanocomposite films based on gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol blend reinforced with bacterial cellulose nanowhiskers for food packaging applications

Summary: Bacterial cellulose nanowhiskers (BCNW) were successfully incorporated into a gelatin-polyvinyl alcohol (GL/PVA) blend film matrix, improving water barrier and mechanical properties of the film. The addition of BCNW did not affect the transparency of the films, indicating that BCNW were uniformly dispersed at the nanoscale.
