The study focuses on heavy baryon productions, investigating a new production mechanism involving two quarks in the baryon participating in the reaction. By comparing the two-quark process with the one-quark process, it is shown that in the former, both lambda and rho modes are abundantly produced.
We study heavy baryon productions, pi + p -> D*(-) (or K*(0)) + Y, where Y is a charmed (or strange) baryon of the ground or excited states. We propose a new production mechanism where two quarks in the baryon participate in the reaction (the two-quark process), which enables the excitation of both the rho and lambda modes of the baryons. This feature differs from the one-quark process in the previous study, which excites only lambda modes. We consider the two-quark process with the vector Reggeon exchange and the two-quark interaction inspired by the instanton model to study one vector meson and one heavy baryon productions. We compare the production rates of the ground states, the rho- and lambda-mode excitations of strange and charmed baryons for forward-angle scattering. We discuss structure and momentum transfer dependence of the production rates. We show that in the two-quark process both lambda and rho modes are abundantly produced unlike the one-quark process.
