The Green Approach to the Synthesis of Bio-Based Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers with Partially Bio-Based Hard Blocks

Ewa Glowinska et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the preparation of novel bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (bio-TPUs) using a diisocyanate mixture. By controlling the composition of biobased hard blocks (HS) and soft blocks (SS), the properties of bio-TPUs can be tailored effectively. The results indicate that increasing the bio-based diisocyanate content enhances the thermal stability and mechanical properties of bio-TPUs, showing promise for the development of fully bio-based polymeric materials.

Green TPUs from Prepolymer Mixtures Designed by Controlling the Chemical Structure of Flexible Segments

Paulina Kasprzyk et al.

Summary: This study focuses on green thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) obtained by controlling the chemical structure of flexible segments using bio-based polyether polyols. By adjusting the number of flexible segments of a given type, various selected properties of TPU materials can be achieved. Increasing the amount of PO3G1000 in the flexible segments enhances the tensile strength but reduces the elongation at break of TPUs.

Synthesis and structural characterization of bio-based bis(cyclic carbonate)s for the preparation of non-isocyanate polyurethanes

Kamila Blazek et al.

Summary: This research focused on the synthesis of bio-based cyclic carbonates using CO2 as a green feedstock and bio-based polyether polyols, aiming to minimize negative environmental impact by implementing solvent-free conditions. The synthesized products were analyzed using various spectroscopy techniques and mass spectrometry, and were successfully used for the preparation of non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) thermosets with potential applications in sound absorbing materials.
