Emergent Chirality and Nonlinear Optical Switching in a Ferroelastic Molecular Perovskite Solid Solution

Lei He et al.

Summary: Solid solution has been traditionally used in inorganic oxides to modify properties, whereas in molecular solid solutions, unique properties may arise due to different molecular conformations and spatial orientations. This study achieved a three-dimensional molecular perovskite ferroelastic solid solution for the first time, demonstrating the generation of a novel chiral phase with second harmonic generation response at specific mixing ratios, offering a new approach for tuning crystal structures.

Camphoric acid based ferroelectric hydrogen bonded liquid crystalline materials integration further dielectric relaxations and novel applications

M. L. N. Madhu Mohan et al.

Summary: This study focused on a sequence of hydrogen bond ferroelectric liquid crystals, which displayed a variety of liquid crystal phases such as C*, X*, and G*. The FTIR spectra and dielectric relaxations of smectic C* and smectic X* were studied, along with a new method to elucidate the helicoidal structure variation with temperature. Furthermore, a thermistor with both positive and negative temperature coefficients derived from these liquid crystals was discussed.
