The influence of age on EEG-based anaesthesia indices

David P. Obert et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of patient's age on various EEG-based anaesthesia indices, finding that almost all current neuromonitoring devices are influenced by age with the potential to result in inappropriate high dosage of anaesthetics. It suggests that anaesthesiologists should be aware of this phenomenon and improvements should be made in the next generation of monitors to correct for these changes.
