Two cytotoxic squalene-derived polyethers from the Japanese red algaChondria armata

Toshiyuki Hamada et al.

Summary: The red alga Chondria armata is known for producing a variety of secondary metabolites, including new triterpene polyethers like bandokorols A and B. The structures of these compounds were determined using various spectroscopic techniques, and their anticancer potentials were tested against ATL and S1T cells.

Global Diversity and Geographic Distributions of Padina Species (Dictyotales, Phaeophyceae): New Insights Based on Molecular and Morphological Analyses

Ni-Ni Win et al.

Summary: The taxonomic status and species diversity of the brown algal genus Padina were assessed based on DNA sequences and morpho-anatomy, revealing the presence of four distinct new species. The phylogenetic analyses provided insights into the biogeographic characteristics of Padina, with species in the Pacific Ocean showing shared distributions. Molecular time trees indicated an estimated divergence time for the genus Padina in the mid-Cretaceous.

Update of seagrass cover and species diversity in Southern Viet Nam using remote sensing data and molecular analyses

Xuan-Vy Nguyen et al.

Summary: Seagrass meadows are globally threatened with Southeast Asia being a cradle of diversity. Limited information on seagrass beds in Southern Viet Nam is due to lack of reliable data and difficulty in species identification. The latest satellite image analyses were used to update the total area and species composition of seagrass beds in Southern Viet Nam.
