Ameliorating the Adverse Effects of Tomato mosaic tobamovirus Infecting Tomato Plants in Egypt by Boosting Immunity in Tomato Plants Using Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Ahmed R. Sofy et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the capacity of ZnO-NPs to trigger tomato plant resistance against ToMV, showing significantly increased growth indices, photosynthetic attributes, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. ZnO-NPs offer a safe and economic antiviral agent against ToMV by reducing oxidative damage caused by the virus.

Molecular Characterization of the Alfalfa mosaic virus Infecting Solanum melongena in Egypt and the Control of Its Deleterious Effects with Melatonin and Salicylic Acid

Ahmed R. Sofy et al.

Summary: Distinct virus-like symptoms in naturally infected eggplants in the Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate in Egypt were suspected to be caused by the Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV). Six out of 40 symptomatic leaf samples tested positive for AMV, while no AMV was found in the 10 leaf samples without symptoms. Using melatonin and salicylic acid increased the resistance of eggplants to AMV infection and reduced oxidative damage.

ACC deaminase containing endophytic bacteria ameliorate salt stress in Pisum sativum through reduced oxidative damage and induction of antioxidative defense systems

Mahmoud R. Sofy et al.

Summary: This study focused on the role of isolated bacteria in alleviating the harmful effects of salt stress on plants. Results showed that treatment with endophytic bacteria significantly increased plant resistance to salt stress by enhancing enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant defenses, osmolyte substances, and antioxidant enzyme gene expression. The use of endophytic bacteria also led to decreased Na+ accumulation and increased K+ uptake in plant tissues, ultimately improving salt tolerance in pea plants.

Comparative Cultivation and Biochemical Analysis of Iceberg Lettuce Grown in Sand Soil and Hydroponics With or Without Microbubbles and Macrobubbles

Mahmoud S. Abu-Shahba et al.

Summary: The study compared the differences in growth parameters of lettuce plants in hydroponic systems and conventional soil, finding that plants in the hydroponic system with microbubbles exhibited better morphological characteristics, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant capacity. Overall, plants in the hydroponic system consumed less water than those in sandy soil, showing higher growth efficiency and yield.
