Globalization-Emissions Nexus: Testing the EKC Hypothesis in Next-11 Countries

Muhammad Shahbaz

Summary: This study investigates the association between globalization and carbon emissions for Next-11 (N-11) countries. The results indicate a U-shaped or inverted U-shaped relationship between globalization and carbon emissions, which has important policy implications for using globalization as an economic tool for sustainable economic development.

Does agricultural value-added induce environmental degradation? Evidence from Azerbaijan

Ismail Bulent Gurbuz et al.

Summary: This study empirically analyzed the long-term relationship between agricultural production and carbon dioxide emissions in Azerbaijan, confirming the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. The findings suggest that GDP and energy consumption have a positive impact on CO2 emissions, while agricultural production has a negative impact. Furthermore, the study confirmed the inverted-U-shaped relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution.

Does agricultural development induce environmental pollution in E7? A myth or reality

Festus Fatai Adedoyin et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of agricultural development, energy use, and economic growth on CO2 emissions in seven emerging countries. It finds that value-added agriculture and economic growth are drivers of CO2 emissions, while the increase in renewable energy can lead to a reduction in emissions. Additionally, in the short run, economic growth has a positive impact on emissions.

The nexus between economic growth, energy use, international trade and ecological footprints: the role of environmental regulations in N11 countries

Solomon Prince Nathaniel et al.

Summary: The study finds that existing environmental regulations in the Next Eleven countries are ineffective in reducing ecological footprints, while greater energy consumption and openness to international trade boost ecological footprints. The Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis is validated, showing heterogeneous impacts of energy consumption, environmental regulations, economic growth, and international trade on the environment in these countries.

The effect of agricultural total factor productivity on environmental degradation in sub-Saharan Africa

Hamdiyah Alhassan

Summary: This study reveals a U-shaped relationship between agricultural total factor productivity and carbon dioxide emissions in sub-Saharan Africa, where productivity initially reduces emissions but then increases them again. Similarly, income also has a U-shaped relationship with emissions, contradicting the Environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis. Additionally, urbanization and trade openness are found to increase carbon dioxide emissions.
